Conclusions and future work

The present versions of the models are not yet ready for critical applications; however, they certainly are in conditions of being tested intensively and being improved, which is going to be done starting from the release of the present document. Future improvements of both models will include the following:

1. Eigenray search on the receiving array, making the parameter zeig redundant.
2. Detailed discussion of different computational issues.
3. Introduction of different types of Gaussian beams.
4. Writing of binary OUTFILs to save disk space for large calculations or compilation with Matlab libraries to produce *.mat files.
5. Inclusion of statistical scattering.
6. Inclusion of volume scattering.
7. Inclusion of diffraction effects.
8. Solution of ray equations including the curvature of the earth for basin scale modeling.
9. Three-dimensional ray tracing to study horizontal refraction.
