Project SEAOX, Plan of Work
The proposed plan of work to be followed under SEAOX is as follows:
-
Tank Experiments
The primary objective of this task is to determine experimentally the relationships between the acoustic signals and the environmental factors that may influence them, namely the release of oxygen bubbles into the water column by seagrasses and the noise of fauna associated to seagrasses, - Acoustic based methods
The objective of this task is to develop a predictive model of acoustic propagation in a seagrass environment and implement a software package for data analysis and interpretation. We will conceive the optimal configuration of the acoustic acquisition system, develop the estimation methods to quantify oxygen produced by a seagrass meadow, and design a user interface to present the results in a comprehensive format, - Calibration and validation
In this task, we will calibrate and validate the measurement node and the developed processing methods in the field. This will be done in two contrasting sites: in STARESO (Corsica), which is a stable and well studied system dominated by the seagrass Posidonia oceanica, and in Ria Formosa lagoon, a highly hydrodynamic and challenging system due to tidal influence, dominated by the seagrassess Zostera marina and Cymodocea nodosa, located in the south coast of Portugal, - Coordination and dissemination
Task 4 is devoted to project coordination with emphasis on integration and validation actions, in particular sea trials planning and execution.
